František Bílek: Early Sketches 1. 5. 2014 – 14. 5. 2016
The new intimate exhibition of a selection of works from Bílekʼs oeuvre this time focuses on the medium of drawing. It displays early sketches and studies mainly originating from between 1891 and 1903, which represent an interesting testimony of how the young Bílek gradually formed his artistic opinion and his life and creative philosophy.
Some works are preparatory studies to final drawings and many of them simultaneously served as points of departure to realizations in sculpture. While the first of the sketches, The Preparation to the Calvary of 1891, still refers to Bílekʼs scholarship in Paris, the next ones were already created in his native Chýnov and then during the first two years of his sojourn to Nové Mlýny onat the City Mayorʼs Island in Prague.
