Start up: Jiří Žák – Shattered Epistemologist 3. 3. 2017 – 7. 5. 2017
Jiří Žák, graduate of the Prague Academy of Fine Arts’ Studio of Intermedia Art III headed by Tomáš Vaněk, and laureate of the 2015 Exit Award, has focused his creative output combining video art and literary essays, on specific present-day social and political phenomena, with excursions into history. His present show in Prague City Gallery is centered around the semantic properties of “truth” and alternately “post-truth”, in the context of modern-time information smog and media manipulation. His current series of videos features among others the dancer Meïmouna Coffi, who created for the artist an improvised choreography inspired in part by gestures used in the manipulation of digital devices (gesture-based technology).
